It's fun and effective!
Class description for YOGAFUNC
YOGAFUNC is a fitness yoga class with music, based on the traditional techniques (asana, breath, vinyasa) from Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. It is not a traditional yoga class but a fun and effective training method suitable for everyone who want to get a taste of yoga, without diving deep into a traditional yoga system. The benefits for participants training regularly include: gained strength, improved flexibility, better balance and body awareness, and peace of mind. In addition, one of our values is joy. “If it isn’t fun, you are doing something wrong.”
1) Length: 45-65 minutes. (check the different versions below)
2) Structure: warm up (2 tracks of music), standing sequence (3), sitting sequence (7), finishing sequence (1) and relaxation (1-2).
3) Releases: New program four times a year (March, June, September, December)
4) Essence: Have fun. Get fit. Never quit!
The YOGAFUNC training concept is created by Jocke Salokorpi, a dedicated student of ashtanga yoga and an experienced trainer, educator and innovator in the group exercise field, with careers in SATS fitness chain (trainer, educator, concept class creator, manager) and Les Mills Nordic (trainer and educator). Jocke is the owner and the head teacher of the Ashtanga Yoga School of Tallinn, where he teaches regular classes and workshops in ashtanga yoga. If you want to connect with Jocke, you can find him through his social media channels (twitter & instagram @jockesalokorpi and facebook www.facebook.com/iprokolas).
The first version of YOGAFUNC was created in the spring of 2011. This format was very successful and stayed the unchanged until June of 2014.
In June 2014 the finishing poses track was added to the program and in June 2015 we got two more exciting additions, tracks #11 (a new hip opening) and #12 (back bending). This makes the class a little longer (up to 65 minutes) which means that the trainer can use them when the schedule allows it. When the time for the class is limited (55 mins), the trainer can choose which, if any, of these new tracks (11-13) he/she uses. This can also be varied. When the program changes and the teaching takes more time, we choose the original 11 tracks, last track being the relaxation. When the group is familiar with the program, we can add any or all of the last three.
In addition to the changes of the original class structure, there are some great improvements to the different class structures. The original class structure is accompanied by two other versions of the class, YOGAFUNC lite and YOGAFUNC stretch.
YOGAFUNC lite is slightly easier version with two of the heavier tracks (#6 vinyasa & #8 upper body strength) removed. With the new hip opening and back bend tracks added on to this “lite” version, the class is a full length YOGAFUNC class but a little easier and more gentle for the beginners.
YOGAFUNC stretch is the recovery class some people have been waiting for. In this class the strength tracks (5, 6, 7, 8) have all been removed, leaving the great tracks that will open the body rejuvenate the mind.
